Monday Inspiration

Having an hour long commute to work in the morning and the evening is pretty crappy. If only the dreary metro stations in Montreal looked like this one I wouldn't hate it so much.

This Too Shall Pass

I love OK GO. Their videos are so amazing and this new one for "This Too Shall Pass" does not dissapoint. The video is a single shot and took over 60 shots to create. It took a team over a month and a half to build the machine which is contructed using mostly recycled materials!

This or That?

I don't know what to doo! I have fallen in love with two things.
#1 this beautiful necklace from elephantine's etsy shop . (I've done a post on it before)

#2 This scarf from Anthropologie

The problem is, with my shopping ban I've allowed myself to pick one. BUT WHICH ONE?

Sooo hard, I canno choooose. The worst part is that they are the same price, so I can't even choose the less expensive option. hmmmm.

Festival of Holi

One day I hope to be in India during the Holi Festival. How fun would it be to run around throwing beautifully colored powder at eachother?

Pretty Perfect

So it's monday, and for a little bit of monday cheering up, I look to beautiful designs (among other things).
Last week when I was reading Desire to Inspire I stumbled upon the beautiful post on L Kae Interiors.
Since I could possibly be moving within the next couple of months, this is exactly what I was looking for. looooovely.

You can see the post here or visit L Kae Interiors.

It's MONDAY!

Monday is not my favorite day. I don't think I've ever met someone who favors monday over any other day of the week. Blehhh. Oh well must be positive about it. POSITIVE.
So here we go with positivity. Things I love

An Education

With the Oscars coming up, I like to try to watch the movies that are nominated for best picture. So last night I watched an education. LOVE. Watch it please. It's about a young studious girl who dreams of going to Oxford university until she meets an older man and gets caught up in his glamourous lifestyle. Keep in mind this takes place in England circa 1961.

Hello, my name is Kathleen and I am a shop-aholic

Ok, I am embarassed to say that I shopped...I know, I know, I said I wouldn't but I couldn't resist. Just mere moments after I wrote that post, my sister emails me asking to go to IKEA over the weekend. How could I resist. IKEA is my favorite store on the face of the earth.

I didn't buy much, but I did buy this duvet cover

So it doesn't look so great in this photo. But its pretty cool.

And today at work I was browsing Etsy and creating a wish list......uh ohh.

Shopping ban!

Ok, so since moving to the city, I have develloped a bit of a shopping addiction. I made up a budget today and I have decided that I will refrain from shopping as best I can. Now this is a true challenge.
I am giving myself a bit of wiggle room though. The other while putting away my laundry I realised that I have plenty of clothes! I definitly do not NEED anything. Anyways I have put together a small list of things, staple items, that I will let myself buy. These items are very lasting pieces and I won't settle on something just because it fits. Here is my list:

  • My very own LBD. (I can't believe I don't have one)
  • A white button up. (I have one, but I have never worn it, it is very over sized)
  • A pair of brown boots.
  • A brown leather messenger bag.
  • A pair of black pumps.
  • Winter boots. ( OH man do I ever need these)

So that is my list for now. I guess it isn't really a shopping ban, more of shopping restrictions.

Yurt''s are cool.

I was reading an article today in the New York Times about a family who live in Alaska, the really cool part is that they live in a Yurt! A Yurt is a Mongolian wooden, round, kinf of tent thing. The do not have any running water, but they have broadband internet access!!

I think this is pretty amazing, I don't think I could live in a Yurt yearlong but definitly as a summer cottage by the water.

Since they have no running water, they have an outhouse and walk an hour once a week to wash themselves and their clothes. They have a well nearby which they use for cooking and drinking.

Inside their Yurt.

This is the outside of a Yurt. How CUUUTE

Goodbye Holidays!

So the holidays are over (I am still in denial about that). I am back at work at normal life begins again! My holdays were great, I hope everyone elses was nice as well.

I didn't make a resolution, because I always break them, so instead, this year I will be focusing on doing things for myself, things that make me happy. Moving to the city has proved to be a bit of a challenge but it's going well and I am happy where I am.

The first thing I did for myself was get a haircut. Sounds pretty lame, but seeing as I haven't had a haircut since last march...embarassing. Also, since my hair is crazy curly, I feel like every time I walk into the hairdressers, they panic haha. This one seemed pretty good, haha she did a good job!
